The Finance Brokers Union Australia exists to strengthen Australia’s finance and mortgage broking profession by promoting professional excellence, supporting the small businesses behind the profession, advancing evidence-based public policy and fostering meaningful collaboration.
We believe a strong profession is built on strong institutions, high professional standards and constructive engagement.
FBUA provides an independent voice for finance brokers while working alongside government, regulators, lenders, aggregators, educators and industry stakeholders to identify practical solutions that strengthen the profession and contribute to better outcomes for consumers and the broader financial system.
Our mission is guided by a simple belief: lasting reform is achieved through consultation, evidence, partnership and continuous improvement — not by working in isolation.
THE FBUA VALUES
INTEGRITY
We act with honesty, transparency and accountability.
Trust is fundamental to a profession that helps Australians make significant financial decisions. FBUA seeks to uphold the highest standards of professional and institutional integrity.
PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE
We believe the finance broking profession should be recognised for the quality, capability and professionalism of the people within it.
We support continuous learning, professional development, high standards and the ongoing advancement of the profession.
REPRESENTATION
We believe finance brokers deserve a meaningful voice in the decisions, policies and reforms that affect their profession.
FBUA listens to the experiences of brokers and seeks to represent those experiences responsibly, constructively and with evidence.
EVIDENCE
Good policy begins with good information.
FBUA is committed to research, data, consultation and practical industry evidence as foundations for policy development and institutional decision-making.
COLLABORATION
Strong institutions do not work in isolation.
We seek constructive relationships with government, regulators, lenders, aggregators, educators, professional bodies, unions, industry participants and the broader community.
Where there is an opportunity to work together to improve outcomes, we will.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
The finance system is constantly changing.
Technology, regulation, consumer expectations and professional practices continue to evolve. FBUA is committed to learning, adapting and improving alongside the profession it represents.
We do not believe institutions should stand still.
OUR COMMITMENT
These values are not simply statements on a page.
They provide the foundation for how FBUA intends to govern, represent its members, develop policy, engage stakeholders and contribute to Australia’s finance system.
INTEGRITY. EXCELLENCE. REPRESENTATION. EVIDENCE. COLLABORATION. PROGRESS.
This is the FBUA DNA.

Our values define how FBUA conducts itself, represents its members and contributes to the future of Australia’s finance and mortgage broking profession.
INTEGRITY
We act honestly, ethically and transparently, building trust through our decisions, relationships and advocacy.
INDEPENDENCE
We provide an independent voice for finance brokers, guided by the long-term interests of the profession and its members.
COLLABORATION
We believe sustainable progress is achieved through constructive engagement with brokers, government, regulators, lenders, aggregators, educators and the wider industry.
EVIDENCE & ACCOUNTABILITY
We support policy and decision-making informed by research, consultation, practical industry experience and transparent governance.
PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE & WELLBEING
We champion lifelong learning, ethical leadership, professional capability and the wellbeing of the people who sustain the profession.
OUR COMMITMENT
These values are the foundation of FBUA’s culture, governance and representation.
They guide how we listen, how we make decisions, how we engage with stakeholders and how we work to strengthen the profession.
Integrity. Independence. Collaboration. Evidence. Excellence.
This is the standard we set for ourselves.
Australia’s finance and mortgage broking profession has changed significantly.
Regulatory reform, stronger consumer protections, technological advancement and rising professional expectations have helped create a more mature and accountable industry.
Today, brokers play an important role in helping Australians and small businesses access finance, navigate complex lending decisions and maintain competition across the lending market.
But with that evolution has come greater complexity.
Many brokers — predominantly independent small business owners — are navigating increasing regulatory and commercial pressures while also identifying gaps in professional support, representation, education, governance, procedural fairness and wellbeing.
THE GAP WE SAW
FBUA was established from the belief that a strong profession requires strong institutions.
Its creation is not a response to a single event or individual issue. It is a response to a broader opportunity to strengthen the foundations of the profession for the long term.
We believe professional representation needs to extend beyond advocacy alone.
A modern professional organisation can provide an independent voice for practitioners while also contributing to policy, supporting education and leadership, encouraging ethical practice, facilitating meaningful consultation, undertaking research and strengthening public confidence in the profession.
OUR RESPONSE
FBUA exists to help build that stronger institutional foundation.
We bring together broker experience, research and stakeholder engagement to support constructive dialogue, evidence-based policy and practical initiatives that strengthen brokers, their businesses and the broader profession.
We are not here to replace regulators, government, lenders, aggregators or existing industry organisations.
We are here to complement them.
FBUA provides another avenue for collaboration, representation and informed discussion while keeping the long-term interests of the profession, consumers and the wider financial system at the centre.
BUILDING FOR THE LONG TERM
Our ambition is to help create a finance broking profession that is trusted, resilient, professionally supported and ready for the future.
A profession with strong institutions.
A profession where practitioners have a meaningful voice.
A profession that continues to raise its standards.
And a profession with a place to belong.
EVERY BROKER NEEDS A HOME.
WE CAN AND WE WILL BUILD IT.

The Finance Brokers Union Australia aspires to become Australia’s leading independent representative organisation for finance and mortgage brokers—recognised for integrity, professionalism, constructive advocacy and a commitment to strengthening both the profession and the communities it serves.
We envision a future in which every finance and mortgage broker has access to independent representation, professional support and opportunities for continuous development. We also envisage a profession that is respected by government, regulators, lenders, industry participants and consumers for its professionalism, ethical standards and contribution to Australia’s financial wellbeing.
Our vision extends beyond responding to today’s issues. We aim to contribute to a profession that remains resilient, innovative and trusted for generations to come.
The Finance Brokers Union Australia believes that lasting reform is built through constructive relationships, informed dialogue and shared understanding.
Australia’s finance and mortgage broking profession operates within a broader financial services ecosystem involving government, regulators, lenders, aggregators, professional associations, educators, consumers and finance brokers themselves. Each plays an important and distinct role.
FBUA does not seek to replace or duplicate these existing institutions. Our role is to complement the existing framework by bringing together industry experience, research and consultation to support practical, evidence-based policy development and professional improvement.
Our engagement is guided by respect, professionalism, transparency, collaboration, evidence-based discussion and good faith. We believe meaningful consultation creates stronger policy, better outcomes and greater confidence across the profession.
Government & Institutional Engagement
FBUA is establishing relationships across government and the financial services ecosystem as part of its broader commitment to strengthening the profession.
Our initial government engagement has included the preparation of a Ministerial Briefing for the Office of the Minister for Small Business, outlining the rationale for FBUA's establishment, the systemic challenges identified across the profession, its strategic priorities and potential opportunities for collaboration with Government.
The FBUA framework identifies Government, Treasury, ASIC, AFCA, lenders, aggregators, professional associations, educational providers and finance brokers as important participants in future consultation and policy development.
As FBUA develops, we will continue to seek constructive opportunities for dialogue, consultation and collaboration — ensuring the experiences of brokers are considered alongside regulatory expertise, research and the broader public interest.
Our objective is simple: to help build a stronger, more trusted and professionally supported finance and mortgage broking profession through partnership rather than isolation.
